CCGLA celebrates a year of victory, tragedy

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION | The Collin County Gay & Lesbian Alliance celebrated the holidays with a party on Saturday, Dec. 19, attended by Plano Mayor Phil Dyer and his wife, Margaret, pictured above, right and center, with CCGLA President Morris Garcia, above left, who noted that in the past year, the organization has "seen victory, tragedy and even death affect our community. But during this joyous season it is also a time of change. Part of that change is indicated by the presence" of the mayor and his wife. Also attending with the members, their friends and family members were other Plano city council members as well as former and current candidates for county and state offices. CCGLA collected more than $1,000 worth of food, toys, toiletries and monetary donations for Samaritan Inn, AIDS Services of North Texas and Youth First Texas Collin County. Volunteer of the Year Awards were presented to longtime CCGLA volunteer and former president of Stonewall Democrats of Collin County Mike Agan and to Tim Phillips, who also serves on the board of CURE
