The Bourne series was about as hetero as any movie can be without Jenna Jameson. Was. The odd hybrid The Bourne Legacy — part sequel, part reboot — introduces some hunky beefcake (including an opening shirtless scene with gay fave Jeremy Renner) and tweaks up the queer appeal. If only Tony Gilroy were as slick a director as Paul Greengrass, who helmed the last two; he turns it from spy thriller to sci-fi, and lacks Greengrass’ inherent sense of staging hand-to-hand combat and wild action scenes … at least until the last half-hour, when Gilroy cools it on politics and science and just has fun.
Three stars. Now playing in wide release.
